And so the ripple effect begins. With necessary funds allocated, SunRail construction began this week, and was followed immediately with the announcement of a new headquarters for Florida Hospital. This is just one of many building projects whose fate hinged on the construction of the SunRail commuter rail. Florida Hospital is planning an extensive Health Village around the future station, including FH campus expansions, medical offices, improved streetscapes, workforce housing, and retail.
FH isn't the only hospital looking to SunRail to support its future expansions: Orlando Health plans to encourage its current and future workers to use the close-by Amtrak/SunRail station. Employees will be able to access existing and new buildings from the station in just minutes on foot.
Another company that has expressed that SunRail will make its project possible is the developer of the Creative Village, to be located on the site of the old Amway Arena. This new, pedestrian- and transit-oriented private development will provide office space for digital media companies, schools, housing for workers, and retail.
