Weekend Preview April 26th - 28th, 2013: Things to Do in Orlando

Summer is here ~ Break out that sunscreen (and deodorant...) and head outdoors for any of the multiple outdoor festivals and events going on this weekend. Quick, before the temp gets into the triple-digits!

Weekend Events

Over 200 wakeboarders will take to Central Florida's lakes in this year's Nautique Wake Games happening this weekend.  Tickets are only $7 online ($15 at the gate) for adults and $5 for kids.

This month, Mad Cow is showing off its brand new Church Street theater during the 11th Annual Orlando Cabaret Festival.  Lunch shows start at $10; click here for the complete schedule.

Friday and Saturday are the last days of the 2013 Winter Park Paint Out, which is your chance to not only see the Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens for FREE, but to also watch 25 professional artists paint in plain air.

And how about taking a drive out to Apopka for the 52nd Annual Apopka Art and Foliage Festival at Kit Land Nelson Park (try saying that three times in a row)? It's FREE and features 150 arts and craft booths, plants from local nurseries, live music, bus tours, and more.  Happening Friday and Saturday.

Friday, April 26th

It's the fourth Friday of the month and Sanford artists are ready to show your what they've been up to in their studios.  The FREE Sanford Art Walk is from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Florida is the part of the South, right? So get your free line dancing lesson at Winter Park Saloon (1566 W Fairbanks Ave) at 8:00pm. Then stick around to put that "Cup and Pin" move to work (not messing with you. that is actually a real move).

Celebrate the end of your work week by loosening that bow tie and checking out Red Lilly Lounge: Burlesque After Dark at Taste Restaurant in College Park (717 W Smith St). Doors open at 10:00pm, show starts at 11:00pm.  Tickets are $12 to $15.

Saturday, April 27th

Finds on Shine. Do it.

Vintage goods, local art, live painting, drink specials, music, and food.  All that and more is happening this Saturday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Maxine's on Shine's (337 N Shine Ave) Finds on Shine Parisian Flea Market.

Our Pick
Don't miss the German American Society of Central Florida's Springfest 2013 in Casselberry for live music, live dance performance by Schuhplattler Gruppe Alpenrose (free entrance if you can pronounce that...not really though), stein-holding contests, German beer, and food offerings. $5, gates open at 2:00pm. Prost!

Have you been hearing all the MLS and new stadium buzz? Come cheer on the Orlando City Soccer Club this Saturday night as they take on the Dayton Dutch Lions and be sure to bring canned goods to the game to support Orlando's Community Food and Outreach Center! $15 will get you a seat in the rowdy supporter section.

Feel like you missed out on the obligatory college toga party? Parliament House has got you covered (pun?) with their Toga Party. $100 goes to the best toga, so get your draping skills ready! 9:00pm, FREE entrance.

Finally, join the Orlando Bike Polo Club for Cruisin for a Brewzin an eight-bar bike pub crawl through Thornton Park, Downtown, and Mills50 this Saturday night. Meet at Lizzie McCormack's at 6:00pm to begin a debaucherous night with bike/beer challenges at every bar. The buzz around town is that this is going to be HUGE and insane. To steal a line from Erin Sullivan at Orlando Weekly - YOLO?

Sunday, April 28th

If you're still alive after the bike pub crawl:

Head over to the Timucua White House (2000 S Summerlin Ave) for Matt Peters' marimba recital featuring the UCF Flute Studio. 7:30pm, FREE (donations welcome).

From noon to 3:00pm, check out live music from the vocalist and saxophonist, Matt Festa, FREE at Casa Feliz in Winter Park. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the museum and flower gardens. Artists are invited to paint or draw on-site during the event.

Lastly, don't forget the weekly Sunday farmers markets in Downtown Orlando and College Park's Sunday Brunch Market, as well as Winter Park Food Truck Sundays.

  2. Agreed, soccer games are so much fun plus it's nice to see that spectators will be bringing in canned goods for a good cause. Very heartwarming.
