Orlando Labor Day Weekend Preview Aug. 29th - Sept. 2nd, 2013

Labor Day Weekend Events

This weekend is the Central Florida Film Festival. From Friday to Sunday, come to the newly renovated West Orange Cinema dinner theater to see dozens of short films, feature-length movies, foreign films, and documentaries. Tickets are $10 per show or $25 for the day (plus drink and popcorn!).

Also Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is Viva Volusia: The International Latino Arts, Culture, and Culinary Festival. This free three-day festival is being held in Daytona Beach's Manatee Island Park and includes live music, dance performances, and a selection of food and drink vendors.

Back in Orlando, stop by Downtown Disney's Raglan Road's The Great Irish Hooley from Friday through Monday. For the second year in a row, visitors can experience well-known Irish musicians, dance, and food. There's no cover, but reservations are recommended!

Na nana nananananana na ~ wipeout! Friday through Monday, come to the Cocoa Beach Pier for the NKF Rich Salick Pro/Am Surf Festival. Your $20 donation (going to the National Kidney Foundation) gets you access to free food samples from over 20 local restaurants, live music, auctions, and, of course, plenty of beach and surf fun.

Total Bummer 4Ever Fest is going on in the Mills50 area Thursday through Saturday. Weekend passes for all 50 bands are $35; passes for Thursday and Friday/Saturday are $15 and $20 respectively.

Thursday, August 29th

Looking to get political this weekend? Join the Speak Easy at Redlight Redlight with special guest Dem. Congressman Alan Grayson between 5:30 and 7:30pm. This event is free and includes raffle ticket purchases for dinner with the ever-entertaining, wacky Congressman. (We've heard that this Congressman likes to get down!)

Get ready for long bathroom lines, tailgating alumni, and tipsy freshman (not an endorsement for underage drinking, but rather an accurate observation). UCF Knights kick off the college football season against the Akron Zips, Thursday at 7:00pm, Bright House Networks Stadium. Get tickets here starting at $10.

There's a brand new play at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, and Thursday and Friday nights at 7:30pm is your chance to see the preview for only $17. The Cortez Method is a dark comedy that follows a dysfunctional family.

Tonight, the Milk District's Sandwich Bar (2432 E Robinson St) presents Open House Conspiracy featuring Alkalino and Sleazy McQueen. Get your ticket now for $10 for the best of house and techno.

Friday, August 30th

Get your bike gear and jorts ready for the last Critical Mass bike ride of the summer season! They'll be leaving Loch Haven Park at 6:00pm and ending at Nora's in Lake Ivanhoe.

Important game alert! Don't miss Orlando City Soccer vs. Charleston Battery this Friday at 7:30pm as they play in the semi-finals for their chance to play in the 2013 USL PRO Championship game.

Saturday, August 31st

Avalon Park hosts the Avalon Skateboard Fest this Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. All ages compete for prizes at races and trick contests. The event and participant registration are free.

Ever wonder what the hell a Saison is? Find yourself in a cold sweat whenever a hip-looking bartender asks you what beer you like? If so, Redlight's got you covered with their Beer Class 101! This tasting and educational class will be hosted by their Beer Manager on premise, Dave Dabney. Seats are $15 a pop and are limited, so make sure to reserve your spot!

If you're looking for more events this Saturday and Sunday, scroll up and see what's going on all weekend long! It's a weekend of festivals: a surf festival, an Irish festival, a film festival, a Latino culture festival, and a rock festival.

Sunday, September 1st

No, a free pig roast at a gay club is not a euphemism! The Parliament House's annual Free Pig Roast is simply a great way to enjoy a free BBQ buffet (from 6:00 to 9:00pm) with enough dance floors to dance it all off again.

Sunday. 3:00pm. Wall Street Labor Day Block Party. Need we say more?

Monday, September 2nd

The Central Florida Labor Council presents its annual Central Florida AFL-CIO 2013 Labor Day Picnic at Lake Eola. From 10:00am to 2:30pm, enjoy live music and BBQ.
