Our Cheap, nay 'Thrifty,' Guide to Oktoberfest 2013 in Orlando

It's that time of year again where we make cliché German jokes and drink beer by the liter (eff those Imperial pints). That's right: It's Oktoberfest season! With the original 'Fest kicking off last weekend, Orlando bier establishments are quick to follow suit.

Saturday, Sept. 28: The Bahia Shriners are hosting their 3rd Annual Munich Style Oktoberfest... and it's FREE! With live music by the Shriner's Oktoberfest Band, plus German beer and grub including pretzels and potato salad. Honestly- what more could you ask for??
Lederhosen. They're so hot right now. Lederhosen.

Hipsters in lederhosen, that's what.

Sunday, Sept. 29: Stardust Video & Coffee's 5th annual Dustoberfest 2013 (1842 E Winter Park Rd)- "It's a special day for all as we present our Quazi-Deutschlander shenanigans… brats, kraut, beer and lot’s of people running about in their lederhosen! It’s like Oktoberfest… but really, really lame."... That's right, Starting at 9:00pm it's Miriam Ruckert's Uber Dance Party ~ We don't know what that is, but bring it on, Miriam!

Friday, Oct. 4: Whole Foods (8003 Turkey Lake Rd) is getting in on the action with their 4th Annual Oktoberfest celebration. $15 gets you in to sample more than 60 different types of beer, plus enjoy live music, food and entertainment. 6:30 - 9:00pm.

Saturday, Oct. 5: Bruno will be cooking up some good ol' traditional German fare at Oblivion Taproom's Octoberfest 2013. And then of course there's the beer. Boots full of it.

Saturday, Oct. 5: Wall Street Plaza is getting in on the action with this year's Blocktoberfest- featuring unlimited Sam Adamns Octoberfest beer from 6:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m.($20 + you get your own Sam Adams stein to hoist around the Plaza), two Stein hoisting competitions at 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. with prizes, and you'll get a chance to 'Shoot the Boo't with a shot of Jager poured down a huge German boot ice luge. Because why not?

Saturdays, October 5 & 26: The German American Society of Central Florida, if for nothing else, is known for their epic Oktoberfest Celebration. A measly $5 donation (kids <12 get in free) gets you into the hottest party in town. Forget Ramstein- Dan Witucki & the Heimatland Musikanten are going to Bring. The. House. Down.

Bring the traditional half-timber house down, that is...
Thursday, Oct. 10: Downtown Sanford is going to be the place to be Tuesday night. Their monthly Alive After 5 is going Bavarian for the season. $7 gets you food and drink samples, but the dancing, music, and atmosphere is free.

Fri - Sat, October 11-12: The Avalon Park Oktoberfest is kostenlos (that's free to all you uncultured swines) and includes alpine dancing!

Wait. That's not alpine dancing....
"It's more like a full-body dry heave set to music..."

Wait? There's more?! You bet your ass there is.

Thur.,October 17:  For Trucks & Tech II : Trucktoberfest there will be an Oktoberfest theme featuring German inspired food from each food truck - Remember, participants are encouraged to come in costume. The event will feature some of Orlando's best food trucks along with technology discussion, demonstrations and all new Startup Alley. FREE, 6:00pm at Lake Eola.

What are you doing for Oktoberfest? Have we missed anything?
