Weekend Preview Nov 1st - 3rd, 2013: Things to Do in Orlando

It's that time. Time to party with American Indians / Greeks / Japanese / LGBT+ Geeks! Get your party on this weekend, our fellow Orlandoans!

Weekend Events

It may be in the 80s this weekend, but Fall is here--or so they tell us. Celebrate the season at Orlando's Fiesta in the Park, happening in Lake Eola Park this Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:00am each day. Come see hundreds of artists, crafters, food vendors, kids' activities, and more. Also, click here to learn about riding the new SunRail train while you're there!

Orlando Greek Fest 2013 is your source for authentic Greek food, Hellenic dance performances, iconography demos, live bands and more. Check it out at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Maitland; admission is $3.

The American Indian Powwow is a three-day event at the Central Florida Fairgrounds with vendors selling artworks, leather, pottery, featherwork, dancing, and storytelling--plus food, like buffalo burgers. Admission is $6 adults, $3 kids/seniors/students/veterans with ID, and free for veterans in uniform.

This weekend's Food Truck Bazaars are happening Friday at 6:00pm in Kissimmee, Saturday at 6:00pm in Sanford, and Sunday at 5:00pm in Orange City (wherever that is).

Friday, November 1st

Haters gonna hate. But geeks don't have to read their books/watch their movies. That's the inspiration behind Skip Ender's Game - Orlando organized by Flame ON! and Geeks Out, the geeky voice of the LGBT+ community. They're pretty pissed off at author Orson Scott Card for his support of Prop 8 and for statements about the gay community so they're skipping the new Ender's Game movie and having a party at The Geek Easy instead! Karaoke, games, and drinks! No cover, but they'll be collecting money for the MAP Foundation, a local charity that helps organizations out that provide services to LGBT+ youth, like the Zebra Coalition. Whether you agree or disagree with the boycott this will be a great LGBT+ geek party at a local bar behind a pretty cool comic store- therefore, fun is to be had!

You know you want to party in here.
Get your tickets for tonight's home opener: Orlando Magic vs. New Orleans Pelicans at 7:00pm at the Amway Center. Tickets start at $16. Come out and celebrate the Magic's 25th anniversary!

The weather is perfect tonight for another installment of Date Night at Leu Gardens, showing Oblivion tonight at 7:30pm. $5 for adults, $2 for kids, free for members; gardens open at 6:00pm. Don't forget a blanket and some vino! For those in Casselberry, don't miss Hotel Transylvania at Lake Concord Park at 6:00pm.

Local artists display their works and food trucks sell their fare alongside live music and kids' activities at the monthly FAVO First Friday Art Show and Exhibition, going on Friday from 5:00 to 9:00pm.

Friday Nights at the Morse Season Kickoff: Enjoy free admission to the galleries, plus live music by the Beautiful Music Chamber Trio. Stop by tonight from 5:00 to 8:00pm. For even more art, Rollins' Cornell Fine Arts Museum is also hosting an open house with free admission and gallery talks.

If you've never been to an ice hockey game in Florida, don't miss Orlando Solar Bears vs. Florida Everblades at the Amway Center at 7:30pm. Sunday, November 3rd

The Orlando Japan Festival 2013 is in its 13th year this Sunday from noon to 5:00pm at The Village at Hunters Creek. Win some amazing raffle prizes, enter the cosplay costume contest, watch dancing and martial arts demonstrations, listen to music, and spend all your money on manga and sushi.
