Weekend Preview January 31st - February 2nd, 2014: Things to Do in Orlando

All Weekend

Happy Lunar New Year! To welcome the year of the horse, the Vietnamese Community of Central Florida is hosting a two-day bash this Saturday and Sunday. It all starts Saturday at 11:00am at the Central Florida Fairgrounds ($5).

Ugh, this weather! But you know what? It's a good excuse to go to the movies. Keep it local by checking out what the Enzian is playing. Or, even better, see a live play this weekend. From Theatre Downtown's Clybourne Park to Mad Cow Theatre Company's Table Manners, and many other around town.

It's also the perfect weather to make that long-overdue museum or gallery visit. Don't miss "I Live in Orlando, but Sometimes I Dream of Other Places," now at the Gallery at Avalon Island. And, if you're ready to brave the outdoors, stop by the Mount Dora Arts Festival this Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Friday, January 31st

Critical Mass Friday! It's the last Friday of the month, so grab your bikes and gather your friends for the first ride of the year, leaving promptly from Loch Haven Park at 6:00pm with an after-party at The Lucky Lure. (And don't forget your lights!)

Not ready to leave your cartoon fantasy world, but you really should leave the house at some point? Then we have two options for you: Nerdy Karaoke at The Geek Easy (9:00pm) and Archer Trivia Night at Bikes Beans & Bordeaux (7:00pm).

Saturday, February 1st

If you haven't been to Lake Wales's Bok Tower Gardens, Saturday is a great day to go: stop by for the free Dedication Day Celebration, complete with Japanese drums, the Singing Tower, live performances, and guest speakers.

Free wine tasting? Yes, please. Stop by Vespr Craft Coffee & Allures (featured in the beautiful photo essay by Jimmy Sherfey and By the Robinsons) Saturday from 4:30 to 6:00 pm.

Craft beer and craft men's clothing, accessories, and grooming supplies? Men with reddish beards and horn-rimmed glasses, rejoice! It's time for the Cloak & Dapper Winter Pop Up Shop at Redlight Redlight, this Saturday from 9:00am to 7:00pm.

Sunday, February 2nd

The College Park Makers Market is every Sunday from 11:00am to 3:00pm in front of Infusion Coffee & Tea (1600 Edgewater Drive), complete with brunch, mimosas, live music, and vendors.

I think there's some sort of big soccer game this Sunday... but we'll actually be watching the Puppy Bowl at The Falcon at 3:00pm.
