InPhotos: Central Florida Citrus Pickin'

It's February, and for Central Floridians that means beautiful weather, receiving waves of jealously from polar-vortex-victims, and, my personal favorite, endless varieties of juicy citrus. {Photos by Tina Craig}

Our favorite local pick (pun intended) is the Showcase of Citrus, which you can find just south of Clermont, about 40 minutes outside Orlando. With the right amount of kitsch and country, it's the perfect representation of Floridiana

Throughout the year, guest pickers can find over a dozen varieties of citrus, from classic navel oranges to delicious, over-sized tangelos.

Head out soon, though, because February/March is the best time to grab a bag of your own citrus. Consult a season chart to make sure your favorites are available.

(It's also a great place for gratuitous vanity photo shoots.)

While you're there, pay a visit to the chickens, play in the tee-pees, take a ride through the swamps, and keep your eyes peeled for gators. Oh, and if you're lucky, you just might get a ride on the owner's Jeep.

Tina Craig is an Orlando photographer. When she's not shooting rock'n'roll memorabilia at Hard Rock International, she dazzles our readers with photo essays and event pix. You can see more of Tina's beautiful work at her website.
