Weekend Preview February 13th - 16th, 2014: Things to Do in Orlando

All Weekend

In case you missed it, this weekend is Valentine's Day! (That was sarcasm, btw.) Whatever your current state of romance is, be sure to take a peek at our Valentine's Event Guide 2014.

This weekend is the start of Valencia College's 7th Annual Brazilian Film Festival. Every evening starts with a reception (Brazilian snacks, anyone?) at 6:30pm, followed by films and discussions at 7:00pm. All movies are free and are taking place on Valencia campuses around town.

This weekend's a great weekend to revisit the Orlando Museum of Art, because $10 gets you in to all the exhibits, as well as the Antiques Vintage & Garden Show, this Friday through Sunday.

*Bonus* Thursday, February 13th

This month's Nerd Nite has a decidedly saucy (but no less scientific!) title: Nerdy Speed Dating, Virtual Virgins, and Whips n’ Chains n’ Dirty Names! Although the speed-dating portion (6:00 to 8:00pm) is already sold out, don't miss the presentations from 8:00 to 9:30pm at Stardust Coffee (come early for a good seat). And stay tuned for our interview with Josh, Orlando Nerd Boss.

Happy Galentine's Day! This is the second annual installation of Redlight Redlight's ladies-only event, complete with drink specials, sweets, vendors, and more.

It might be a little chilly tonight, but don't let that keep you from seeing ROMEO + JULIET at 7:00pm in Winter Park's Central Park. Remember, Enizan's monthly Popcorn Flicks in the Park is always free! So grab some blankets and go check it out.

Friday, February 14th

Like we said, we have a whole Valentine's Day post, but for good measure, here's a run-down:

If all this Valentine's Day business is getting on your nerves, some times you just have to say "Eff it, I'm going to sing karaoke at Big Daddy's." (Or will you still be hung over from their Anniversary Party happening Thursday?)

Saturday, February 15th

This Saturday is the 14th Annual Orlando Wetlands Festival at Fort Christmas Historical Park, from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Check out the complete guide for performances, hikes, workshops, and other activities.

St. Cloud and Kissimmee are coming together to celebrate Black History Month with Celebration in Black Festival, this Saturday from 1:00 to 6:00pm at the St. Cloud Lakefront Park.

Saturday Serenades at East End Market is the perfect way to relax this Saturday from 3:00 to 6:00pm. (And by "relax" we mean stuff your face with food from East End.)

Happy third anniversary, Lazy Afternoon! Celebrate with this Orlando DJ collaborative this Saturday, starting at 10:00pm, at Cafe Annie (131 N Orange Ave). If you need any convincing, just hop over to our  recent interview with them!

Sunday, February 16th

Hold is a short film that tells the story of a struggling couple amid the outbreak of a deadly virus, and what great lengths they must go through in order to survive. See it premiere this Sunday, complete with a screening of the film, a Q&A with the cast and crew, and a short concert of the composer of the film (singer/songwriter) performing original pieces from the film. It's all happening at the Enzian at noon--be sure to get your tickets early for only $5.

Puppy Love: The Event is your chance to hang out with cute pups, visit vendors, hear some live music, and of course eat and drink. It's happening this Sunday from noon to 4:00pm at The Acre (4421 Edgewater Drive).
