Weekend Preview: March 14th - 16th, 2014

It looks like it's gonna be another good one, folks. Read on for shows, festivals, and parties you don't want to miss this weekend in Orlando.

Weekend Events

St. Patrick's Day is Monday, which means it won't be hard to find plenty of green-hued drink specials this weekend. If you're looking for more than green Bud Light, check out the Mighty Festival at Raglan Road for a quality lineup of live music, dancing, and food. Meanwhile, Winter Park's Fiddler's Green has it sown St. Patrick's Day lineup. And lastly, you can always join the St. Practiceday Pub Crawl this Saturday ($15).

Friday, March 14th

"Hot for teacher" becomes a literal statement at the Peacock Room with Polylust Burlesque's show Polylust High, where their new students will show you how they get straight As. Doors at 9:00pm; $5 at the door with prom afterwards, so dress accordingly. And attendance is 50% of your grade.

Did you ever watch Jeopardy and think, "I could totally win this"? Us too, although it's only when they show the high school edition. Regardless, why don't you show off your mad skillz at Lil Indies' This is Jeopardy night. They are opening early just for this, so be there at 7:00pm. And in the words of the great Sean Connery, "suck it Trebek!"

Saturday, March 15th

Quench that post-lunch hankering for some literature with the Train Shots Book Release Party, this Saturday, 2:00pm, at the Edan Bar. There will be a brief reading and Q&A with author, followed by book signing. (Get a head start by checking out our interview with the author, Vanessa Blakeslee.)

If your backyard is anything like ours at the moment, it's looking like a post-Monster Truck rally. Remedy that by grabbing yourself some beautiful ferns and native Florida plants at Leu Garden's Annual Plant Sale from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The event is free, but beware of the insane parking--people don't play when it comes to gardenias.

Bust out your white beards and red beanies, or your deadpan expression and pigtail braids: it's a Wes Anderson party at Stardust Coffee! O. R. They? is a costume trivia party, so re-watch all your VHS tapes (DVDs are so lame) and don't forget your Polaroid camera, this will be worth remembering Sunday morning. 7:00pm, free.

Sick of hearing your own genitals go on and on about how their day was and the drama at the office? Give them the weekend off and instead go listen to The Vagina Monologues at The Center on Mills. Tickets are $10, show starts at 8:00pm.

Sunday, March 16th

This Sunday is Holi 2014, aka Phagwah, the colorful Indian spring celebration. Wear some white clothes you don't mind messing up, and stop by Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake (3401 S Hiawassee Rd) from 11:00am to 7:00pm for music, performances, food, and tons of powdered color.

This Sunday, Will's Pub is hosting a special edition of Southern Fried Sunday: SFS Pre-St. Patrick's Day Party, featuring The Kidney Stones, The Mud Flappers, Laney Jones, and Antique Animals. Come for the music, stay for the complimentary corned beef and cabbase, as well as drink specials. 5:00pm; tickets are $10.
