This weekend marks the start of spring, and that means artists are coming out of the woodwork to show off what they've got. Hint: Look for them at one of the many art, culture, and food festivals happening in and around Orlando this weekend!
Weekend Events
ART31 is a month-long program of experimentation and collaboration hosted by the Art & History Museums Maitland. Events this weekend include painting with master watercolorists, lectures, Q&As, films, and more.
This weekend is also the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, featuring local and national artists, food, drink, and live music this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
In Clermont, Lakeridge Winery is hosting its 6th Annual Wine & Seafood Festival with live music, artists, crafters, lots of tasty seafood for purchase, and complimentary winery tours and tastings. (Friday through Sunday.)
Don't miss the 19th Annual Valencia Film Celebration. General admission is $7 per night / $15 for the weekend and only $5 per night / $12 for the weekend for students, military, and seniors.
Friday, March 21st
Mills50 is really stepping it up this weekend with two events back-to-back: This Friday is the opening party for the newest exhibit at Snap! Space, A Certain Point of View, featuring work by local artist Thomas Thorspecken and photographer James A. Harper. This is a free event, but please register ahead of time.
After the exhibit, stroll down the street to The Space for the monthly dance party Body // Talk, featuring Peace Arrow. It's all about the "Psychedelic // Freak Folk // Indie Dance // Deep-house // Disco." 10:00pm to 2:30am; $5 cover; BYOB.
Saturday, March 22nd
The 3rd Annual Sanford Pints 'n' Paws Craft Beer Festival is your chance to grab a drink with your dog, while benefiting other dogs. Pre-sale tickets are $20 and include unlimited beer sampling from 3:00 to 7:00pm, live music, and contests; doors open at 2:00pm.
Sunday, March 23rd
This Sunday is the 2014 Roller Derby Season Opener. Come out to the Universal Skating Center (866 S Goldenrod Rd) this Sunday at 4:30pm to see the Orlando Area Derby Revolution take on the Thunder City Derby Sirens. Get your tickets online for $10 adults or $12 at the door (kids are $5).
This Sunday is another installment of the College Park Makers Market (11:00am to 3:00pm) and the good ol' Downtown Orlando Farmers Market (10:00am to 4:00pm).
One last festival to squeeze in: This Sunday is the 3rd Annual Orlando Turkish Festival at Lake Eola Park, with delicious food and coffee, as well as music, crafts, and vendors.
