Weekend Preview: May 23rd - 25th, 2014 + Memorial Day in Orlando

Orlando Memorial Day 2014

We'll admit: We've been a little heavy on the Weekend Previews lately. But we promise there are some fresh new posts and photo essays just around the corner. In the meantime, here are our top picks for this beautiful (and hot!) Orlando Memorial Day weekend:

Weekend Events

Orlando International Fringe Festival 2014
It's another weekend of the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival. Be sure to check out the calendar for a complete listing of all the theater shows, outdoor performances, music, kids activities, and more.

If fishing, boats, or being outside on a really hot day are your thing, then the 2014 FishStock at New Smyrna Beach may be just the thing for you. Come for the fishing competitions and seminars, stay for the live music, food, and kids activities.

This weekend is also the Florida Anime Expperience 2014. If you've recovered from MegaCon, get daily passes for $20 and check out all things Anime, from artists and special guests to cosplay and presentations.

[Boy, I wish the Florida Folk Festival was under $20 so I could mention it here...]

Memorial Day 2014 Events in Orlando!

Historic Downtown Sanford Florida Memorial Day 2014

Friday, May 23rd

Friday night at 6:00pm is the start of the two-day Central Florida's BBQ Blowout. (I know you're wondering, and yes, this is a Florida BBQ Association-sanctioned event.) So head out to Oviedo and get your BBQ on.

LUNAFEST is a traveling film festival that celebrates short films by women, for women, and about women. It's happening Friday, 6:30pm, at Leu Gardens. Tickets are $10-$15; bring blankets, snacks, and drinks, and enjoy this beautiful evening outside!

Saturday, May 24th

Couldn't have said it better: "Soccer hooligans, fair weather fans, pizza lovers, beer guzzlers and people with nothing better to do are invited to Lazy Moon’s UEFA Champions League Finals Viewing Party (Real Madrid vs Aletico de Madrid)." The match kicks off at 2:45pm and for every pizza or pint purchased during the game, you get entered to win a free slice and a beer during every World Cup match this summer (a love for soccer is not required, but encouraged).

This Saturday night, Body//Talk Takes over The Milk District. Starting at 9:30pm, the Body//Talk team takes over three separate spaces for three different experiences: Space Bar brings the disco-funk and classics, Sandwich Bar goes indie, and the parking lot, well, it's said to be weird. $7 cover, $5 cover if you're dressed surreal; includes free drink.

Basic Primal Movement will host its first Art Party this Saturday at 8:00pm at The Space (1206 E Colonial Dr). Put on some painting clothes, grab your dancing shoes, and get ready to paint a 360-degree canvas.

Will's Pub Orlando by Analog Artist Digital World / Thomas Thorspecken

Sunday, May 25th

Dumpster Dive is a special edition of one of our favorite monthly events, Southern Fried Sunday. This week, starting Sunday at 6:00pm, Will's Pub is hosting Dumpster Dive as a Mills50 fundraiser. Your $8 cover includes burgers, hot dogs, vegan dogs, and music by Risky Business.

If you haven't checked out Barley & Vine Biergarten, give them a try this Sunday for their Sunday Funday, which includes free food (!) with the purchase of a drink, and specials on certain beers.

Have you been to the College Park Makers Market? If not, it's happening this Sunday from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Grab some breakfast or lunch at the market or at Infusion Tea (um, have you tried the fruit and granola yogurt?) and check out the selection of crafts and local goods.

To get your Memorial Day party started early, jump back to the top for some all-American Sunday events!

  1. I think the Maker's Market has ended or is ending. It wasn't going on the other week and that is what Infusion Tea was telling people.
