Weekend Preview: June 6th - June 8th, 2014

Snap! Space Orlando Photography

Weekend Events

bite:30 is a month-long foodabonanza with  dozens of restaurants offering prix fixe lunches and dinners at $10-15 and $15-30 respectively. (A "pree-fix" menu is a set price menu, you animal!) Luckily for our $20 limit, 17 restaurants are partaking in the $10 to $15 price range.

Gay Days Orlando 2014
Gay Days are back in Orlando, also bringing a slew non-theme-park events to town this weekend. From Little Miss Parliament House (Fri-Sun; $12-15) to Pillow Talk (Fri; $15-20), check out the full calendar for all the parties, events, and shows. (When they say Leann Rimes is performing Saturday, is it really her or a guy in drag?)

Freebie alert! If you bank at Bank of America, Museums on Us gives you free admission to the Orlando Museum of Art, Mennello, History Center, and the Science Center on Saturday and Sunday.

Friday, June 6th

It's a First Friday, so brace yourselves:

One First Friday event I want to highlight is First Friday Fotos - Local Love Edition. Stop by Macbeth Photography (in the incredible Kress building downtown) and get a professional portrait taken for just $20 between 3:00 and 9:00pm. Why local love? Because your photo is taken in front of an awesome hand-chalked, Orlando-themed backdrop.

Saturday, June 7th

Orlando Harley's 1st Annual Bacon Bonanza is your chance to sample bacon-themed foods from mac and cheese (that's it?) to bacon popcorn and bacon ice cream (now you have my attention). It's happening this Saturday from noon to 4:00pm and includes live music, samples, water/sodas, and beer available for purchase.

With slogans like "Experience Orlando on all Fours" and "Guaranteed to get you Lei'd," you won't want to miss the classy affair that will be Orlando Pub Crawl's The Get Lei'd Luau Pub Crawl, this Saturday starting at 8:00pm. Get your ticket online by Friday for $15; $20 at the door.

Maybe you're in the mood for something...smarter? Then check out Orlando Science Center's Science Night Live this Saturday from 8:00 to 11:00pm. Conduct lab experiements and use the giant telescope, or hang out in the dome theater and watch a Beatles laser light show; $15. (Start early with Enzian's Science on Screen at noon!)

Unless it's a cover for some sort of drug deal, stop by Rockfest this Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm for what I imagine will be a pretty good selection of gems, minerals, and crafts. Alternatively, stop by Polka Dot Flea at the Orlando Fairgrounds from 9:00am to 4:00pm; $4.

Catch the last day of Snap! Space's Edge of a Dream exhibit with a special Artist Day, where you can meet the artists and learn about their works. Various sessions from 2:00 to 4:30pm; free.

Sunday, June 8th

The DailyCity Food Truck Bazaar returns to Orlando (Fashion Square Mall) this Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00pm with all your faves.

Don't forget, bite:30, GayDays, Museums on Us, and more! (See above.)

What are you doing this weekend, Orlandoans? Leave a comment below!

  1. Love this blog! Lots of good info. Just want to share two more First Friday events: Baldwin Park and Melbourne's Eau Gallie Arts District (if you fancy a road trip):
