Weekend Preview: September 12th - 14th, 2014

There is so much happening this weekend, and most of it is for a good cause!

Weekend Events

The Maker Faire at the Orlando Science Center is here once again all weekend long. Starting at 10:00am on Saturday through 5:00pm on Sunday. $12-29. Get your DIY on. (Someone bring us back a robot.)

Don't miss the showings of MONSTER: A very special varieTEASE going on all weekend. It's an experiment in storytelling and don't forget to check out the website for clues and behind the scenes footage! $15-18, The Venue, Fri 12th & Sat 13th with doors opening at 8:00pm.

Thursday, September 11th

Bonus- we actually got out weekend preview out early! We did this to tell you about the awesome Thursday events, namely the 19th Nerd Nite which will feature nerd trivia for the first time ever. 7:00pm, free, Stardust Video & Coffee. Be there and be square. (4 tickets will be given away at Nerd Nite for the Maker Faire- I know right!?)

Also don't miss the Popcorn Flicks in the Park showing of Napoleon Dynamite at 8:00pm on Park Ave. for free. Get there early to get close to the screen because those Winter Park mom's don't play when staking out the good spots.

Friday, September 12th

IDEAS For Us is hosting a fundraiser with a screening of the new movie, "Disruption", at 6:45pm in the courtyard of East End Market. Following the movie there will be a discussion about what we can do to affect climate change. There will be light refreshments and while it's technically a free event, there is a suggested (and encouraged by us!) donation.

Who doesn't love a fear boner? Get yours by attending the Skill Focus: Burlesque presents Horror! at The Venue. $10-15, doors at 10:00pm, show at 11:00pm.

Saturday, September 13th

We normally stick to our $20 limit, but once in a blue moon we bend that rule if it's for a good cause. The Quack Attack on Poverty 5K is worth the extra bucks in Community Food & Outreach Center's fight to end homelessness and poverty. $29, 8:00am, Lake Baldwin Trail at Baldwin Park. The 5K will feature bubble, squirt gun and quack zones and you'll be wearing an inflatable duck-shaped pool float. I mean, come on, that screams new profile picture. Tickets still available!

The Super Mega Awesome 19th Anniversary Party!!! is happening at Will's Pub starting at 5:00pm, $10, 18+.

The Orlando Story Club, along with WMFE and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, presents Food, Glorious Food. A storytelling event open to the public with prizes for the best five minute story. $15 donation, 7:30pm, Second Harvest location.

Sunday, September 14th

How about a little yoga to cure that hangover? Yoga in Lake Eola Park is always free and happens every Sunday at 11:00am. That gives you enough time to sleep in, have some coffee or a mimosa (hair of the dog, amirite?), and clean off last night's makeup before heading over to the corner of Robinson and Eola Dr.- across from Panara- to get your OM on.

What are you doing in Orlando this weekend? Leave a comment!
