Weekend Events
The Florida Music Festival is back and trying something new this year: All shows will be free! That's right, all 150 bands, all 20 venues, all free. Check out the schedule to see what's happening this Thursday through Saturday.
This weekend marks the final days of the second annual Orlando Tech Week. Events are going on this Thursday through Saturday, including the Ts & Ties Party on Friday and BarCamp Orlando on Saturday.
It's also the final weekend of the 2015 Florida Film Festival, with movies and events. Be sure to check the schedule for everything that's going on.
Thursday, April 16th, and Friday, April 17th
We finally got our act together and are able to include all the great Third Thursday events happening downtown. As the slogan says, Art. Food. Tech. Biz. all come together in Downtown Orlando in a series of different events happening simultaneously: Gallery Hop, Taste of Church Street, Tech Meetup, and Business Networking.
Literary readings, performance art, and mixed media: it's all at Literocalypse 13 this Thursday at 9:00pm at The Space Station (2539 Coolidge Ave.); byob, $2 suggested donation.
Twelve21 Gallery is taking over The Orange Studio to bring you the Opening Reception: New Refractions this Friday. This is a free event featuring works by mixed-media artist Andrea Stanislav.
Saturday, April 18th
Lit alert! The UCF Book Festival is happening this Saturday from 10:00am to 3:30pm. This is a free event and open to the public with panels and workshops (schedule) covering every genre, from sci-fi and military history to craft beer and poetry, alongside plenty of events for kids and teens.
The Florida Music Festival isn't the only place to catch free shows this weekend: the Orange County Spring Festival and Battle of the Bands is happening this Saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm at Barnett Park.
And if you still can't get enough music, drop by Park Ave CDs in Audubon Park as they celebrate the 8th Annual Record Store Day. Come as early as 8:00am for some specials.
Retromended Vintage is hosting another Garden Party & Spring Trunk Show in their lovely courtyard off Lake Ivanhoe. Stop by this Saturday between noon and 7:00pm to grab a drink and shop.
After last week's crazy win over Portland, you won't want to miss this Saturday's Orlando City vs Columbus Crew Watch Party at the Harp & Celt. The game starts at 7:30pm.
It's time for another Orlando Story Club! This month's theme is April Fools in Love, where 10 people who put their names in a hat will be drawn and invited on stage to tell a five minute story and the best story wins a prize. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and include drinks and hors d'oeuvres.
Sunday, April 19th
Wind down this Sunday by seeing a move at the Florida Film Festival or stop by the Downtown Orlando Farmers Market for some breakfast and yoga. Alternatively, check out the It's Just Yoga festival at Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte for plenty of donation-based classes this Sunday.
Monday Honorable Mention
This year's Spring Swap & Shop by Other Peoples Property is swapping its regular Friday timeslot and moving to Monday, April 20th, to kick of Earth Week in style. Be sure to stop by at the Winter Park Plaza from 5:30 to 8:00pm. Tip: Drop off your clothes at Credo by Sunday and join the fun for only $15.
